And you thought Australian speeding fines were high…
A driver has been fined €121,000 (A$195,796) for speeding in Aaland in Finland, where the penalty is calculated based on the offender’s daily disposable income – usually their daily wage is halved.
According to It’s Aaland newspaper, Anders Wiklöf also had his driving license suspended for 10 days.
“I deeply regret that,” he told the newspaper.
“But I’ve heard that they’re going to save a billion and a half on healthcare in Finland, so I hope that money can fill the gap there. Ideally, I would like them to be earmarked for that purpose.”
It is not clear what he was driving when he committed the offence.
Mr Wiklöf was reportedly caught driving 82km/h in a 50km/h zone, and this is not the first time he has been fined.
In 2013, he was reportedly fined €95,000, while in 2018 he received a fine of €63,680.
Mr. Wiklöf runs Wiklöf Holding, a holding company that includes businesses in the logistics, real estate and tourism sectors, as well as helicopter services.
