Hate trying to squeeze in after parking your BMW iX, X7 or 7 Series in a tight space? A model update means you don’t have to anymore.
This functionality is already available in Australia on the new 7 Series, we’ll update this story with details of when it will hit the iX and X7, when it becomes available.
The new Extended Parking Assistant Professional function allows owners to use the My BMW iPhone app to pull their car out of a parking space, or drive in, without anyone behind the wheel.
Similar functionality is offered on Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles, but instead of relying on a smartphone app, the Smart Park system is controlled by a button on the car key.
BMW goes a step further, however, by combining remote control technology with its Maneuver Assistant.
Capable of saving up to 10 different movements of up to 200m in length, the system can essentially carry out complex, pre-recorded sequences – steering, acceleration, braking and changing gears – without driver input.
Previously, it could only be activated from inside the car. Now, owners can start the sequence from their iPhone.
Although the Maneuver Assistant is capable of longer sequences than just pulling in/out of a parking space, owners still need to be within six meters of the car to operate it with their phone.
