Tesla Australia has cut prices across its EV range – making the Model 3 and Model Y sedans potentially cheaper than ever.

Today’s $3900 base price cut brings the Model 3 RWD sedan down to $57,400 before on-road costs, while the Model Y RWD SUV now retails for $65,400 before on-road costs.

This brings the Model Y below the price threshold for rebate in NSW ($3500 and stamp duty exemption), Queensland ($6000), Western Australia ($3500) and South Australia ($3500) for the first time, joining the Model 3.

Victoria has recently scrapped its $3000 rebate so no luck there, we’re afraid.

    Tesla 2023 price update:

    Model 3:

    • RWD: $57,400 ($3900 down)
    • Long Distance: $70,400 (down $3900)
    • Performance: $83,400 (down $4615)

    Model Y:

    • RWD: $65,400 ($3900 down)
    • Long Distance: $78,400 (down $3900)
    • Performance: $91,400 (down $7015)

All prices are before on-road costs and incentives.

So how cheap can you now get a basic Tesla? Let’s take a look at using the company’s own price calculator, adding list prices plus delivery fees, registration and State taxes, and using any tax breaks and incentives available.

Be sure to double check your specific state as there are restrictions based on gross income in some cases, and limits on the number of cars you can buy.

The latest price hike from Tesla is sure to push EV sales higher than their current record position – a market share of 7.0 percent this year – as Tesla is far and away the dominant player in the market.

Incredibly, the Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling passenger car in Australia this year (10,117 to the end of March) while the Model Y was the market’s best-selling SUV overall in May.

Tell us, is the new price point enough to make you consider the switch?
