Suzuki Australia has unveiled a new flagship version of its cheapest vehicle that hints at the launch of a personalized blacked-out variant across the brand’s wider range.
The Suzuki Ignis Shadow it’s technically the second model to receive the blacked-out Shadow treatment, following the special edition Baleno Shadow designed to produce the popular lightweight hatchback in Australia.
Unlike the Baleno Shadow, the Ignis Shadow is a permanent model. Customer deliveries will begin shortly.
Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota says the Ignis Shadow is the first in a wider line-up of permanent Shadow models. Swift Shadow and Vitara Shadow will follow at a later date.
The Ignis Shadow is based on the top GLX variant and adds a black roof spoiler, black side decals and Shadow badging. All these features are added locally.
Darkened Ignis Shadow is worth from $27,990 drive awaywhich is $1500 more expensive than the GLX.
Power still comes from a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine produce 66kW power and 120Nm of torque. This is sent to the front wheels exclusively via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The Ignis Shadow is available with every exterior paint color option except Super Black Pearl. Every color other than Pure White Pearl costs an additional $595.
The second-generation Ignis first hit Australian shores in late 2016 and received a mid-life update in 2020.
The ‘Series II’ update focuses on cosmetic changes to the Ignis and does not bring any additional safety kit, nor does it bring the mild hybrid powertrain offered in Europe.
Now looking older among its rivals, the Ignis does not offer autonomous emergency braking (AEB) on any variant. The now defunct Suzuki Baleno sibling is the same.
As previously reported, Suzuki revealed the Baleno-based Fronx small SUV confirmed to be coming to Australia. It is understood to be launched in early 2024.
Measuring in at 3995mm long, the Fronx slots between the Ignis and Vitara, and will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Stonic, Toyota Yaris Cross.
