One of Europe’s most popular crossover SUVs is gaining an electric powertrain in its next generation, and it’s being revealed next week.

The Peugeot E-3008 will join a growing range of electric vehicles (EVs) from the French brand, and will be unveiled on September 12.

The teaser video showcases various design elements without giving us a more complete look of the vehicle.

However, Peugeot has previously teased the side profile of the mid-sized E-3008, which adopts more of a coupe SUV silhouette than the current car.

In the latest teaser, a pointed roof spoiler which slightly extends over the rear window is visible, as are numerous E-3008 badges.

The teaser also gives us another look at Peugeot’s new Panoramic i-Cockpit interior for the E-3008, which it has already revealed.

The new interior design will debut on the E-3008, and will influence future Peugeots.

As with existing Peugeot models, the instrument cluster is positioned further towards the windscreen, so drivers don’t have to peer through the steering wheel, also obviating the need for a head-up display.

The instrumentation display and infotainment touchscreen now live in a 21.0-inch curved display area that’s angled towards the driver, but still accessible to the front-seat passenger.

The dashboard features a tiered design, accentuated by wraparound body coloured trim and swathes of fabric. The fabric covers sections of the door-cards, centre console and dashboard, upon which the climate control screen, gear selector buttons and air vents are situated.

Important functions like the electronic parking brake, volume wheel and air conditioning functions are found on a tiered centre console along with cup holders.

The two-spoke steering wheel features touch-sensitive buttons, however, Peugeot says they will only activate until they are pressed with intent.

The E-3008 is expected to be underpinned by a version of Stellantis’s STLA Medium platform.

The company is promising best-in-class range, charging time, performance, efficiency, affordability and driving pleasure.

It promises more than 700km of WLTP range with a ‘Performance’ battery pack, and more than 500km with a ‘Standard’ pack, with useful energy of up to 98kWh.

STLA Medium vehicles will use a 400V electric architecture. Depending on the application, Stellantis promises energy consumption of less than 14kWh per 100km, and the ability to charge a vehicle from 20 to 80 per cent in 27 minutes – a rate of 2.4kWh per minute.

They’ll also offer single- or dual-motor powertrains with between 160 and 285kW of power.

Peugeot is also planning a replacement for the 5008, which is currently a boxier, third-row version of the 3008. It has recently been spied testing.

The E-3008 will join a growing range of electric Peugeots. The brand already offers the e-2008 and e-Partner in Australia, with the e-208 set to join them.

Overseas, Peugeot also offers the e-Expert and e-Boxer vans.
