BMW has quietly discontinued low-cost ‘Pure’ variants of some M-segment performance models in Australia.
The BMW M135i xDrive Pure hatchback, BMW M235i xDrive Pure Gran Coupeand X2 M35i A genuine ‘SUV coupe’ is no longer available in Australia.
A ‘full fat’ version of the car is still available – with a starting price of $5000 more than the discontinued Pure model.
This follows BMW discontinuing the M Pure variant of the M340i xDrive sedan as part of a mid-life update that recently went on sale in the country.
“The decision to reposition our BMW M Pure offering was driven by customer preference,” a BMW Australia spokesperson said.

“Registration of variants in the 1 Series, 2 Series Gran Coupé, X2 and 3 Series ranges strongly favors the fully specified version, which prompted us to remove the Pure variant from the line-up.”
“However, we continue to offer the Genuine editions of the M550i, X5 M50i and X6 M50i given the strong and continued interest in them from our customers,” the BMW Australia spokesperson added.
BMW first introduced the M Pure variant of the 1 Series, 2 Series Gran Coupe and X2 in 2020. It is described as a cut-price performance variant that provides some luxury equipment.
These M Pure models are all powered by the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as a non-M Pure version, produces 225kW power and 450Nm of torque.
The engine was (and remains) mated to an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission with drive sent through an all-wheel drive system, with a front LSD.,
On the outside, the 1 Series, 2 Series Gran Coupe and X2 M Pure variants have M Sport exterior treatment, 19-inch alloy wheels and M Sport brakes. Inside there is an M Sport steering wheel, M Sport seats, and black Alcantara and cloth upholstery.
They miss out on features like the panoramic sunroof, adaptive LED headlights, Harman Kardon premium sound system and ‘Dakota’ leather upholstery.
Meanwhile, BMW Australia has recently raised the asking price of most of its models up to $11,500, depending on model and variant.
The 1 Series hatchback range now starts at $53,900 before on-road costs for the 118i and rises to $75,300 before on-road for the M135i xDrive.
The 2 Series Gran Coupe range now starts at $61,200 before on-road costs for the 218i M Sport and rises to $82,500 before on-road costs for the M235i xDrive.
The X2 range now starts at $52,600 before on-road costs for the sDrive18i and rises to $77,900 before on-road costs for the M35i.
