Have you ever wondered how editors run tests for Car and Driver’s 10 Best? This year, for the first time, we’re offering the public the chance to get insider stories and experience the 10Best like an editor. Are you coming along for the ride?
Coming on September 8th
On Friday, September 8, 2023, we headed to the North Star Reach camp in Pinckney, Michigan, to test a noteworthy new crop of vehicles, just as we’ve done for the past 40 years. For some background, we’ll be evaluating cars as well as trucks and SUVs, with editor scores determining which will make our Top 10 list for 2024. To qualify as a Top 10 contender, each vehicle must be sold by January 31, 2024, have a price base no more than $110,000, and either new or significantly updated—unless we invite back the previous year’s winner to defend their spot on the list. We evaluate each vehicle based on value, mission fulfillment and fun to drive.
10Best participants will get an opportunity to get an up close and personal look at competing vehicles, learn about the 10Best judging process and engage in one-on-one conversations with editors. Then, they’ll hook up to ride together on the test track and experience the cars in action as they wind their way through Pinckney’s back roads. After that, they will exchange notes with editors and fellow fans and vote them for Car and Driver 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards. We’ll also enjoy fun deals along the way, including lunch from local favorite Zingerman’s Delicatessen at Car and Driver base camp and gift bags filled with Car and Driver gears.
The results of the 10 Best Cars 2024 will be published in the January 2024 edition Car and Driver and the 10Best Trucks results will be published in the February/March 2024 issue, but participants who join us will get a preview of the vehicle lineup months before the story goes live.
