- An electrical overheating problem has caused Stellantis to recall 306,165 Ram heavy-duty pickups in the US
- Included in the recall are 2021–2023 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and cab-chassis trucks with 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines.
- The automaker has asked owners not to park the vehicle indoors until the issue is addressed.
Stellantis said today that it is recalling 306,165 Ram HD pickup trucks and chassis cab trucks from the 2021 to 2023 model years. The issue is the intake heater grid relay on trucks equipped with the 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine and an older design heater grid relay that does not again mounted on the truck. The automaker previously recalled Ram HD trucks for the same problem in late 2021.
Stellantis said the relay can overheat, which opens up the possibility of a fire. The company said there were six fires reported that may be related to the issue. Five of them occurred while the vehicle’s engine was running, while the other one was with the engine off. The automaker says the risk is “minimal” but still advises truck owners or users not to park it indoors.
The company will begin notifying customers in March. Until then, owners can check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) recall website to see if their truck is involved in the recall.
